"The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference."
I watch a lot of documentaries in my free time. You could say it's one of guilty pleasures, but really I don't feel guilty about it. I love watching documentaries, especially nature documentaries like Life and Planet Earth. The reason I like watching documentaries is that it satisfies my curiosity. For example, I started watching a series called Human Planet. It's a series about how humans work with and conquer nature in order to live in the most remote and extreme climates like the Himalayas or deep in the jungles. That just sounds so interesting to me and makes me want to know more about it. I tend to be curious about lots of random things and documentaries also help expose me to the world teaching me things I never knew.

“I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too, So we're really not that different, me and you.” -Colin Raye
Chivalry. That is a word that’s rarely used nowadays. Last semester in my Men/Women discussion class we actually discussed chivalry and what it constitutes in society today. I said that chivalry means being a gentleman and self-sacrificing. I was then asked by the moderators of the discussion what I meant by that to which I replied that it just means thinking of others, not only towards women. The classic example of being chivalrous is opening the door for someone or giving up your seat for someone who needs it more than you do. The question I asked myself today was does chivalry still exist and to what extent. I don’t think that chivalry exists anymore, at least in terms of how I define it. There is no more self-sacrifice in my opinion because there is always some benefit to yourself in being chivalrous. Most people act “chivalrous” because that is either the social norm or because it is the polite thing to do and they just don’t want to appear like an asshole. Think about it, in fine dining, the proper thing to do is the pull out the chairs for a lady and then push their chair in after they take a seat. Guys only do that because that is the social norm in that setting. They did it to gain favor from the woman showing them that they have class. I bet that if half the things people consider to be chivalrous wasn’t expected of guys in certain social settings that most would forget to do them. Maybe this is just the cynical part of me showing when I say chivalry doesn’t really exist, at least true chivalry.

It’s similar to altruism, which I just recently learned the word for. Altruism is basically the selfless concern for others. That concern can manifest in many different ways in helping others. I honestly believe that there is no true selfless action and that there is always some underlying reason for the action even if it’s not immediately obvious. It can be anything from trying to get on someone’s good side, trying to get a compliment, or even to just feel better about yourself. Again, may just be my cynical side poking through…

“I start to feel like I can’t maintain the facade any longer, that I may just start to show through. And I wish I knew what was wrong. Maybe something about how stupid my whole life is. I don’t know. Why does the rest of the world put up with the hypocrisy, the need to put a happy face on sorrow, the need to keep on keeping on?... I don’t know the answer, I know only that I can’t. I don't want any more vicissitudes, I don't want any more of this try, try again stuff. I just want out. I’ve had it. I am so tired. I am twenty and I am already exhausted.” -Elizabeth Wurtzel
So it's 5:11 when I'm starting this post that I've decided I'm actually going to finish. I have like over 20 drafts just sitting unfinished that I doubt I'll ever get back to, but we'll see. Anyways I've decided that before I go to sleep I'm going to actually update with a post about something. About what I haven't quite decided yet so we'll just have to see where my train of thought leads this post. I started out this semester with high hopes and a good sense of purpose, but I can say that now I don't have any of that. I'm no longer excited about this semester and I'm back to where I was last semester and last year. The thing is, I have a pretty good idea as to why I'm in this funk right now except I can barely admit it to myself let alone others. I just wonder to myself will I be able to accept this thing and do something about it or just keep it to myself like always and just let it pass me by. I honestly don't want to regret anything and I feel that that fear is what really gets me a lot of the time in making my decisions, even minor ones like what to eat for lunch. I don't want to pick something and then regret going down that path because there is no turning back. This just leads to my incredible indecisiveness for everything. This is one of the hardest things to change about myself and I feel as though I'll never get over this. This and being more self-confident/proactive about my life. It's hard to change who you are no matter how much you want. I just feel as though these are the obstacles that are standing in the way between me now and the me that's actually legit 100% happy and content with his life for more than a day.

“They keep saying the right person will come along, I think mine got hit by a truck.”
Day 21 Look back. Why did you choose this challenge? Do you think it says anything about you?
I chose this challenge because I saw it on a friends blog and decided to do it as well and because the posts are more thought provoking even if I haven't been giving them as much thought as I should. Really I just enjoy thought provoking things. I like to think about things that I normally wouldn't have thought about. It forces me to really step back and look at myself from a different perspective while other times it reinforces my views on things.

Day 15 What do you believe in? And not just God or atheism.
I have not figured out my own beliefs. Partly because I don't know all of the beliefs to see which one I feel fits me and partly because I don't see the need to declare my beliefs. If anything the one thing I believe that the essential things that every belief teaches us to just be good people. The deities may be different and the exact details of what is good and bad, but all in all essentially we are taught to be good and by doing so we will be rewarded. If we can all agree on at least that, do the details really matter that much that we need to hate and hurt each other? I think not, but what do I know?

Day 16 What are you passionate about?
I don't know what I'm passionate about. I've been looking for it and haven't come across it yet. I figure if I'm not sure if I'm passionate about something then chances are I'm not. To be honest I feel sort of empty without at least one thing in my life I have passion for. I'm hoping going through college will help me find it.

Day 17 Who was the last person you kissed? (If you are still with them now, pick the person before them.) What would they say if they saw you now?
Well...this is an awkward question.

Day 19 If you could be anywhere in the world, but you had to be there for a certain cause, where would you be and why?
I would pick Vietnam. One, in order to learn more about my heritage and culture and two, to help out my home country. I don't know what cause though, but it would definitely be there.

Day 20 Again, pick a song that projects the mood of your week or day.
Soul Man by Ben L'Oncle Soul. Yeah it's in french, but I just love the melody and feel of the song. Plus I actually translated the lyrics to see what it was about and I kinda liked the lyrics too. An overall positive feeling song.

"The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts. Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world. And they are not only happy in themselves, they are the cause of happiness in others." -William Lyon Phelps
I'm a giant fail. Oh well, better late than never.
Day 10 Did you have a good day or a bad day? Where do you think that defining line was?
Today (whenever Day 10 was) was a good day since I spent all of it with friends. I went ice skating, then watched Mean Girls, then played cranium. Afterwards I went out to watch Black Swan and got my mind blown by that. So it was a great day in terms of winter break. The defining line would just be the fact that I got to hang out with people. I'm a people person, but not large crowds.
Day 11 Do you feel protective over someone?
I do feel protective over my friends in general just because they're my friends and I care about them, but I do feel more protective over some than others. I won't say who though because where's the fun in that? =)
Day 12 If you could trade places with anyone for one week, who would it be and why?
I wouldn't want to trade places with anyone for a week just because I don't see a point. Why be someone else for a week? I'd trade forever, but that's just cause I'm greedy like that heh.
Day 13 Where do you see your best friend in 10 years?
I see my best friend getting into the swing of their careers in 10 years. Probably married too since people seem to be getting married quite young these days, but I dunno.
Dat 14 When you are stressed, what can you use as an outlet? Why do you think it helps you?
When I'm stressed I tend to become a social recluse. I go for a drive, get my ipod and headphones, walk around taking pictures, then go read a book with my music. Basically it's just to calm myself down. I love driving so that definitely helps me calm down. The right music helps my mood and so do taking pictures and getting lost in a book.

Dang I'm geting worse and worse at this. Alright triple post time for days 6-8.
Day 6 Talk about a recent experience that has effected you greatly and how.
A recent experience that affected my greatly is actually a personal one so I'm not gonna say what it is however rest assured I'll try not to do anymore weak posts like this one will be.
Day 7 Think of the last person you hugged. What would you do if they vanished completely?
The last person I hugged would actually be David Lin since I ran into him and Caitlin at the mall. I would actually be pretty devastated if he disappeared just because he's a great role model to look up to who is around my age...ish. I really respect him and it'd be a shame to not have a person like that to look up to.
Day 8 Write about the first moment that comes to your head when you read the words “childhood memory”
There was a similar post to this question before so you can just look at that =)

"Music is what feelings sound like."
Day 5 Pick a song that projects the same mood as your day or week and explain.
Hmm, I'd have to say Price Tag ft. B.o.B. by Jessie J just because I love the message of the song and I've been listening to it almost nonstop this week. Two lines in particular in the song I love. First one is Jessie J singing "Can we all slow down and enjoy right now/ Guarantee we'll be feelin/ All right" and B.o.B.'s line going "We do this for the love so we fight and sacrifice every night" Such a great song, I definitely recommend taking a listen to it.

"Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness." -Yousuf Karsh
Well since yesterday I didn't quite get to a post since I was at the DEM holiday party, I'm just gonna do a double post since it is my birthday. Yay!
3. Where have you been spending your time lately? Three/Five/Ten years ago would you have expected to be there?
Well that depends when really. During school I spend all my time either in class or in the Baltimore Room in Stamp. At home, I'm either in my room doing work or relaxing by doing something I enjoy like taking pictures, reading a book for fun, or taking a leisurely drive. Three/Five/Ten years ago I definitely would not have expected myself to be there. I wouldn't have expected to get interested in photography and going out to DC or parks to take pictures. It's a pleasant surprise though.
4. What do you think it means to be in love?
Meh I feel like I've talked about love too much on here so I'm making the decision to just skip this one =)

Day 2 Who are you in comparison to who you used to be. What made you change?
I am me. I am always changing even when I'm sitting around doing nothing or when I'm doing something like this. One of the major changes I'd say would be my priorities in life. Instead of just focusing on my current needs or desires, I look ahead to the future. I focusing on bettering myself as a person and individual not for others, but for myself. Why? Because I enjoy it.

So it's winter break. What better to do than another 30 day challenge, but this time I will try harder to actually do one post everyday and not fall behind. Not hard considering it's break and I'm bored to death 99.99% of the time, right? Well you'd be wrong, but here goes nothing.
The list.
1. What happened today? If it was the last day of your life, how satisfied would you be with your final hours?
2. Who are you? In comparison to who you used to be. What made you change?
3. Where have you been spending your time lately? Three/Five/Ten years ago would you have expected to be there?
4. What do you think it means to be in love?
5. Pick a song that projects the same mood as your day or week and explain.
6. Talk about a recent experience that has effected you greatly and how.
7. Think of the last person you hugged. What would you do if they vanished completely?
8. Write about the first moment that comes to your head when you read the words “childhood memory”
9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
10. Did you have a good day or a bad day? Where do you think that defining line was?
11. Do you feel protective over someone?
12. If you could trade places with anyone for one week, who would it be and why?
13. Where do you see your best friend in 10 years?
14. When you are stressed, what can you use as an outlet? Why do you think it helps you?
15. What do you believe in? And not just God or atheism.
16. What are you passionate about?
17. Who was the last person you kissed? (If you are still with them now, pick the person before them.) What would they say if they saw you now?
18. Talk about your extended family. Why do you think they are the way they are?
19. If you could be anywhere in the world, but you had to be there for a certain cause, where would you be and why?
20. Again, pick a song that projects the mood of your week or day.
21. Look back. Why did you choose this challenge? Do you think it says anything about you?
22. How do you think people see you? Be a little negative and a little positive.
23. Explain your life plan for the next month, then the next year, then three years, then five years.
24. Are you more social or independent? Why do you think that is?
25. What do you think it means to be a good parent?
26. Talk about a moment where you were truly happy. What was happening? Who were you with?
27. Is there a friend you are worried about? Why do they have you concerned? Do you think they’ll be okay?
28. Would you rather someone tell you the truth up front but gently, or be lied to to spare your feelings?
29. If you could be doing the same things you do now, only in your own way, how would a normal day in your life go?
30. Look back on this last month and talk about it.
Day 1 What happened today? If it was the last day of your life, how satisfied would you be with your final hours?

It's so empty living behind these castle walls

Instead of a quote I leave you with an entire song, which also is where I got the title of this entry from. Castle wallsby T.I. ft. Christina Aguilera. Such a great song plus Christina Aguilera sounds great singing on the track. I really like these hip hop ballads type songs.
I've noticed that some of the things that have really made an impact in my life are from unexpected or sometimes miniscule sources. Now I'm not a very religious person at all and for the most part those people who walk around trying to force their idea of religion onto me annoy me and make me not want to listen to what they have to say. However, this one guy, while still annoying because he wouldn't leave me alone, actually has come up to me twice this semester while I was waiting around in Stamp. He came up to me to talk to me about God and everything. I humored him because I was waiting anyway and I would've felt bad about just telling him I don't really care. Anyways, so he started asking me about my current religious practices and whatnot and then proceeded to tell me about why I should follow God. That's not what stuck with me though, what stuck with me is when he said, "It's one of those things where no matter what you do, you can't just close your eyes and make it go away. It will happen whether you want it to or not and it's up to me to be prepared." While he said this in context of being judged before God, I apply it to everything else. Whenever I think to myself I really don't want to take this test or go do something I don't want to do, I then tell myself that there's nothing I can do. I will have to take that test no matter what. All I can do is make sure I'm prepared to the best of my abilities. One, I never would've thought that such a simple statement would change my take on the things I have to do and two, I never would've thought that it would come from a religious source.

Baby, it's cold outside (Day 25-30)

Wow giant fail by me. I sorta forgot about this since I was so busy with school stuff, but I'm taking a quick break from studying physics and so I'll write days 25-30 really quickly. Sorry for no quote or picture this post either.
Day 25: Someone who fascinates me and why
To me, girls are fascinating. I know it's not technically "someone", but it still works. I think that innate curiosity into the opposite sex has been one of the reasons why I enjoy hanging out around girls. Girls are great company and are entertaining. Being in my dialogue about men and women just helped my increase that interest. Learning more helps my understanding and improving that area of my life would be nice.
Day 26: What kind of person attracts me
Hmm. I honestly don't really have this image of my "perfect" woman. There are certain traits that if a girl has them, I'll take notice of that and then I'll be like damn, I like that part of her. However, those things aren't a certainty in if I'm attracted to a girl or not. When I look at a girl to see if I'm attracted to her, it is partly does she have this trait or that, but also is she not like this or that. A girl could have all the perfect traits that I enjoy, but if she also has a bunch of things about her that I can't stand, it just wouldn't work.
Day 27: A problem that I have had
This is pretty general. The first thing that comes to mind at the moment is school since I'm studying right now. I've always had a problem taking tests. For some reason my brain hates retaining important information like notes and loves retaining useless information. Really I've always struggled with doing well on them, but in high school and such I've been able to still do well. In college, however, it's really starting to show it's ugly head whenever I have an exam just because everything's a lot harder now.
Day 28: Something that I miss
I miss being close to people. I definitely feel like I've drifted apart from some of my closest friends and haven't been able to fix that or replace that gap in my life yet.
Day 29: Goals for the next 30 days
Well my friend actually followed through with his deal with himself that he'd make a move on this girl before the end of the semester. So I think it'd be a nice idea for me to add it to my goals, but since I'm not really interested in any girls I know right now it's a long shot. My next goal is to start kicking school's ass. I just need to try harder and harder each semester and soon enough I'll be back on track. Also, figure out my future. I don't know what I want to do. Medical school? Graduate school? I don't even know what I want to be when I grow up still since there are so many options.
Day 30: My highs and lows of this month
High: It's sad that nothing comes to mind.
Lows: Also sad that a lot more lows come to mind than highs. Current low though, going back to studying now and pulling an all nighter.

“It's the movies that have really been running things in America ever since they were invented. They show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, how to feel about it, and how to look how you feel about it.” -Andy Warhol
Day 24: My favorite movie and what it's about.
I can't really pick out a one favorite movie. I just have a lot of movies that I love to watch. However, if I was to only be able to watch one movie for the rest of my life it would be a close tie between Ocean's Eleven and V for Vendetta so I'll discuss both. Ocean's Eleven is about a thief named Daniel Ocean who just got out of jail and is already formulating up a plan to steal $150 million from three casinos, which happen to be owned by the guy who is now dating his ex-wife. What I love about this movie is how ingenious it is. Not only the actual plot and plan, but also the way it was done. The sequels were ehh. V for Vendetta on the other hand is about a vigilante named V and a women named Evey. Evey discovers her true self and about V's past as V goes through his plans to free Britain for its totalitarian rule. I don't really know what about this movie gets me, but I always enjoy watching it. I highly recommend either one.

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." -Coco Chanel
Day 23: Give 5 pictures of girls who are famous that I find attractive
1) Yvonne Strahovski. What isn't to like about her?

2) Jordana Brewster. This list is a little biased, Jordana Brewster and Yvonne Strahovski are both from Chuck which is one of my new favorite shows. Either way, Jordana Brewster is gorgeous.
3) Kristen Kreuk. Back when I used to watch Smallville I had such a crush on her. She can be pretty or sexy or both.
4) Adriana Lima. Mmmm.
5) Olivia Wilde. She's from House, but sadly isn't on the show anymore...

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live." -Flora Whittemore
Day 22: How have I changed in the past 2 years?
Well...I don't really know how I have changed, but I do know I have. For me it's hard to gauge change if I'm experiencing it every single day. I'd like to think I've become more mature, but I know I'm still doing stupid things. I'd like to think that I've become more open to things, which actually I do feel is true. I definitely do feel as though I'm more open minded than I was before. However, I still procrastinate, I still have bad self-control, and I'm still naive. Of course I still have plenty of time in my life to change myself for the better. Like I said before, I don't notice these changes usually. On rare occasions, when I do notice that I've changed for the better I get a feeling of accomplishment, which is great.

"It's exciting in the same way that being shot at is exciting" -Jeremy Clarkson
Day 21: One of my favorite shows.
I actually have a few contenders for my favorite show. However, one show I do tend to enjoy no matter the episode or whenever I happen to be watching and that show is Top Gear. I absolutely love this show. One, it's about cars, which makes it cool. Also it's not just your run of the mill car show, it's actually really entertaining and funny because they go way over the top with automotive concepts. Such as building an amphibious car to cross the English Channel, or to find out if a car or plane is faster in delivering a truffle, or having stars drive around their track in a reasonably priced car. It's just all around good fun. This show keeps my love for cars alive because I've actually learned some things from the show. See? Entertaining and educational...ish. In fact instead of one of my photos, here's a picture of the The Stig.

“The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” -Tom Bodett
Day 20: How important I think education is.
Well what kind of question is that? Of course I think education is important. You can't expect to be successful in life without some form of education. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to go to college and graduate school or whatnot. I just think that it means you have to invest some time in expanding your knowledge base because it's important to be a well-rounded individual. For this reason I like the idea of CORE classes for graduation. What I don't like is being told which areas I have to expand myself in. I know what interests me and what extra things I want to learn. Also while I do procrastinate a lot and say how much I hate school, I do understand the importance of why I'm in college and spending all this money to learn. The more I learn just means I'll have more doors open to me in the future and hopefully it also equates to a bigger paycheck and a job I love doing.

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.” -Anne Frank
Day 19: Disrespecting your parents.
I'll admit I have in the past disrespected my parents on some occasions, which I'm not particularly proud of. I think it is important to respect your parents because, well, they're your parents. Even if you may not always agree on things, the important thing is to always respect them and treat them with respect because after all, when you're a parent, wouldn't you want your kids to treat you with respect?
